Students of Sharjah University have embarked on an incredibly interesting journey to learn from the Sharjah Department of Government Relations (DGR) about how friendship and cooperation are forged between the UAE’s cultural capital and the cities of the world.

Through a special four-week virtual course, DGR is familiarising students with their vision and objectives, as well as showing them how the department has played a key role in coordinating with Sharjah’s international stakeholders and facilitating cross government initiatives in the emirate.

Designed to promote the Sharjah’s efforts to continue opening new avenues for students to educate themselves while adhering to national measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the course includes virtual discussions between DGR officials and the university’s students during which the latter have been learning how DGR creates platforms for effective collaborations with cities worldwide, thereby aiding Sharjah and the UAE develop relations internationally.

Sheikh Majid Al Qasimi, DGR’s director said: “Our department has embraced latest technologies to maintain workflow efficiencies remotely and smooth stakeholder communication as we navigate this pandemic in a way that ensures the safety and wellbeing of our employees and partners. This online course is an extension of our commitment to continue adding value to our community via innovative ideas and efforts.”

“COVID-19 has reinforced the need for international solidarity, cultural dialogue and coordinated efforts to achieve common goals, which are at the core of DGR’s mission and efforts. It’s more important than ever to equip our future generations with the knowledge and tools they will need to strengthen bridges of communication and collaboration with cities across the world, which is why DGR designed this hand-on virtual course for them,” he added.
