Pearson takes lead to create a new generation of performers,as Lisa Scott-Lee becomes BTEC Ambassador for Performing Arts
The collaboration will celebrate the work of students who study BTEC in Performing Arts and give Performing Arts the recognition it deservesin the region
United Arab Emirates, 28 July 2021 – Today,Pearson, the world’s learning company has announced Lisa Scott-Lee, co-founder of Dubai Performing Arts Academy (DPA), and a member of the phenomenally successful British pop group Steps, as an Ambassador for BTEC, specializing in Performing Arts.
Lisa will be actively working with the Pearson Middle Eastteam to celebrate the work of DPA students who study BTEC in Performing Arts, and to help raise the profile of Performing Arts in the region.
Multiple studies have demonstrated a direct correlation between the act of performing and academic achievement. Performing can help students and youth recognize their potential for success and improve their confidence. According to UNESCO, the Performing Arts industry plays an important role from many perspectives, including its contributions to the economy and society, employment, and tourism. Recently, the UAE has also set to finalize the 10-year plan to boost cultural revenues, by maximizing the participation of creators, writers and artists and raising the role of the country’s cultural and creative sectors in its development process.
The BTEC Level 3 in Performing Arts is an internationally recognized qualification and is the equivalent of A-levels. This multi-disciplinary course explores all elements of the Theatrical Arts, designed to prepare students for further study and careers in the Performing Arts Industry. Studentstake part in practical sessions with Industry Professionals, exploring different genres of Acting, Singing and Dance. Candidates can choose to focus their study on an area of personal interest including Musical Theatre, Dance and Acting.

The BTEC in Performing Arts is a two-year programme of up to 720 guided learning hours split across multipleunits. The structure of the qualification is in keeping with current industry practice, university teaching and assessment methodology. The completion of an extensive portfolio showcases students’ skills and allows for large-scale projects whilst providing a holistic learning experience. The assessments enable students to demonstrate valuable skills such as analysis, planning, organization, and critical thinking in the context of developing practical outcomes, embodying the three fundamental strands of the performing arts – dancing, singing and drama.
