QNET and SERGAS Group Celebrate the Spirit of the Ramadan; Bring Joy to UAE labours

QNET organised CSR event for labour camps, in line with UAE’s ‘1 Billion Meal Initiative’

DUBAI – April 21, 2022: To mark the occasion of the Zayed Humanitarian Day, QNET, the global e-commerce based direct selling platform, and the SERGAS group, leading providers of gas systems solutions in the Middle East, undertook a motivated CSR initiative to bring cheer to the UAE labourers for the month of Ramadan. Inspired by the UAE government’s, ‘1 Billion Meals Initiative’, the two companies organised Suhoor for over 150 labourers at SERGAS labour camp in Sharjah and conducted fun activities for the workers where they won exciting prizes, bringing joy to the section of the people, who deserve acknowledgement and appreciation.

Malou Caluza, CEO of QNET commented on the latest CSR initiative, “Giving is a value we cherish and I believe giving is not limited to monetary donation, rather, giving is defined by the differences we make: the differences in someone’s life, in a society, or in a nation It is our responsibility to support the local community through CSR initiatives, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. For the past several years, QNET has been active with several community services and support of non-government organizations. Our initiatives reflect our commitment of core values of respect and integrity demonstrated by the desire of “giving back” to the community.”

She added, “We have always tried to conduct ourselves by our values and principles which stands for raise yourself to help humankind. The time of Ramadan is the perfect opportunity to live by our principles and work towards a goal that is beyond just financial success.”

Mr. Mohamed Damak, CEO  of SERGAS, said, “Labourers are some of the most important members of our society, taking on the burden to the hardest, most demanding work that we all need to get done in order to have a functioning society. We often forget to acknowledge and appreciate this section of people, which is why we organised this event at the SERGAS labour camp to show our appreciation for all the arduous work they do and to make sure that they can have a happy and healthy Ramadan.”

In addition to the 150 Suhoor meal boxes for the labourers, the event fostered the camaraderie and sense of community between the labourers through a fair-like experience where they got to play various games. Some of the activities organised included games like Penalty Shootout where labourers teamed up and competed with each other for the promise of prizes, games of chance like Spin-the-Wheel and other common fair games like ring toss and Balloon Blaster.

Migrant labourers work long hours and fasting during Ramadan months coupled with the high temperatures during summer months in the UAE compounds the difficulty. Many workers have also not visited home in a long time and have therefore become a family for one another. The event provided them with the opportunity to relax and provided them with an invaluable bonding experience.
